This candle comes from a Los Angeles-based company with an extraordinary link to our museum's history. Their Marston Company name and logo—reminiscent of the 1920s design—echoes San Diego's beloved Marston's department store (1878-1961), founded by George Marston, for whom our Marston House is named. The original Marston's was more than a store; it was a progressive institution where women held senior positions, employees earned living wages, and the community found support during disasters. San Diegans still remember the name with pride.
